Breathe Easy Cottage – spacious, private, peaceful, beautiful.... memorable!

A year-round country cottage rental for your private Ontario vacation retreat

Breathe Easy Cottage is in the heart of Saugeen Country within Grey County in Midwestern Ontario, south of the city of Owen Sound on Georgian Bay. We are a short drive to both Georgian Bay and Lake Huron beaches plus the Bruce Trail. This area has a varied culture and terrain, with an intriguing range of lifestyles, from Amish communities to modern experiments in living "off the grid" and traditional old Ontario farmsteads. It is rich in natural beauty, arts and cultural activities and replete with inspiring examples of environmentally sensitive living. Four distinct seasons provide many outdoor opportunities year-round. We are in the snowbelt for great winter ski and snowmobiling conditions, and our 1000ft elevation provides warm, fresh summers without the oppressive heat and humidity of the cities. We also have long spring and fall transition periods when nature shows off its grandeur on the many walking trails.

In winter, spring, summer or fall ... Breathe Easy and the surrounding area have much to offer. Season by season you will never run out of things to do. Breathe Easy sits close to the boundary of Bruce and Grey Counties, so you will be near to events and attractions in both. And it is no wonder that Bruce is called "Ontario's natural retreat" and Grey "beautiful, naturally"!

The cottage is in the midst of the Saugeen River system and many small lakes for swimming, fishing, canoeing and kayaking. We are within easy driving range of golf, downhill skiing (cross-country and snowshoeing out the door), snowmobiling, beaches, the Bruce Trail, and conservation areas. There are also music and theatre festivals (Summerfolk, Symphony in the Barn, for example), many musicians, artists, artisans and studio tours to experience.

Canoeing and kayaking

But don't miss the chance to dip your paddle into one of the many small lakes and rivers in the Saugeen River System. Or try some of the other boating opportunities (sailing, windsurfing, powerboating, or even the ferry to Manitoulin) on nearby Georgian Bay and Lake Huron.

Let nature draw you out to explore your surroundings.

Nature

There are so many natural treats in store for you in and around Breathe Easy. From the many windows of the cottage you can engage in birdwatching, or step out onto the decks for some star-gazing in brilliantly clear skies. You can visit conservation areas or go on treks. And the library at Breathe Easy is well stocked with nature guides and engaging books for all ages on nature and the environment.

Fishing

Grey County has it all, with plenty of lake fishing, river fishing and fly fishing, as well as tackle shops, boat launching facilities and even a fly fishing school. For example, fishing the nearby Saugeen offers some of Ontario's best chinook salmon and rainbow trout runs. The Saugeen River, consisting of naturally sheltered feeder streams and spring fed lakes, is an angler's haven for large and small mouth bass, brown and book trout, northern pike and muskie.
In summer there are many places to golf, including the nearby Ferns course. In winter enjoy cross country skiing by stepping out the door or exploring local trails. Or take a daytrip to one of the region's ski resorts for a downhill skiing treat.
And year-round there are many local attractions and cultural events you can explore.

As wonderful as it is to cozy up in front of the fireplace on a cold winter's day, stir up a feast with family and friends, or relax with puzzles, games or a good book, the fresh clean air and pristine expanses of snow will draw you outside for more energetic play too.

Inside or out, Breathe Easy offers you all the rest and relaxation you have been craving.
