Breathe Easy Cottage – spacious, private, peaceful, beautiful.... memorable!

Reconnecting with nature

Take advantage of nature's healing power when you visit Breathe Easy Cottage. The silence, the clean air and the skies alone will encourage you to breathe more freely and relax into a well-deserved vacation. (And the sky photography you will find throughout the house will set your imagination free too.)

Lie back and enjoy watching millions of stars sparkle brilliantly in our unpolluted night sky. Count meteors in the summer and fall meteor showers. Keep an eye out for a glorious display of northern lights (and enjoy the northern lights wall mural in one of our bedrooms). Or just watch the traverse of the moon from east to west, or the thick belt of the Milky Way that drapes the sky, fully visible due to the wide open views from the house.

Wander through our woods, fields and wetlands, seeing the teeming life in these varied habitats. Listen for the spring peepers, watch for leopard frogs in the yard, or lean over the bridges on the south end of the property to spot fish in the rushing waters of the Styx River.

Listen for the thwump-thwump of Canada Geese as formations fly low overhead. Enjoy the antics of wild turkeys or the graceful windsurfing of hawks, turkey vultures and even the occasional peregrine falcon. Or bask in the cheerful or haunting melodies of the various songbirds that enjoy our fields and forests.

Breathe Easy is located in a region with a wide variety of trees, too. Our fall colours are stupendous, surrounded as we are by mixed forests of maple, tamarack, ash, beech, cedar, pine, spruce and many other species. Wild flowers abound, too, in field, forest and wetland. There are thousands of trilliums, violets, marsh marigolds and more in the spring, and daisies, chicory, Echinacea and lilies are among the many summer blooms. There are even wild orchids to be found, as well as a wide variety of ferns and edible plants.

You will be entertained but not bothered by local wildlife, which includes red squirrels (the charming small squirrels that resemble chipmunks), rabbits, deer, the occasional raccoon or porcupine and possibly a fleeting glimpse of fox or other mid-size creatures that prefer to stay out of sight.

All in all, Breathe Easy offers a rich opportunity to reconnect with the natural world, wandering our land, paddling down one of the many local rivers or lakes, trekking on the many local trails or just meandering through the countryside by whatever means strikes your fancy.
